| Roughly 150 years ago, the old gas works "Gaswerk" provided the Westend of Hamburg with gas light in streets and houses for the first time. Today, the "Gastwerk" or "guestwork" provides the city and its guests with a new attraction at the old place: Hamburg's first Design Hotel. The imposing industrial monument of the gas works is the perfect set-up for a surprisingly harmonic set-up of old architecture combined with new design. In the hall with 8,000 square meters flooded with day light, we created a first class hotel with 135 atrium rooms, lofts and suites, generous conference space - and a truly unique atmosphere. ACCOMMODATION: Those who think modern design cold and unfriendly are in for a surprise in the Gastwerk. Hotel designers Regine Schwethelm and Sybille von Heyden created an ambience for the Gastwerk in which everybody quickly feels at home.
Generous, bright rooms, natural materials and many details make you forget sterile hotel feelings quickly: large beds and bathrooms with freedom to move in all rooms, individual classic design pieces instead of the usual bleak suite, and of course all the modern standards such as TV, video, CD and computer-modems. |
HOTEL FACILITIES & SERVICES: Creative new ideas won’t be conceived in cramped, dark conference rooms. Note that you’d find any in the Gastwerk. The four hundred square meter conference area – the "denk.mal" – is flooded with daylight and offers an atmosphere where you can excellently work and convene.
This is surely due to the loft-ambience: high windows, wooden floors, scarce and noble interior, framed with rustic masonry. But it is also due to the modern equipment. All conference rooms are furnished with large screens, videobeamer, ISDN-connection and latest moderation and presentation technologies. All rooms have daylight and air-conditioning.
We want you to feel welcome and at home in the Gastwerk. Of course, this takes more than an extraordinary location and exquisite furniture. This is why we provided many minor and major conveniences in order to make your stay in the Gastwerk as pleasant and comfortable as possible.
