SIEM REAP : Stores

Book Stores

Most book vendors in Siem Reap focus on books Cambodia and Southeast Asia related books, Angkor temple guides, and travel books. The book store at the FCC Angkor, the outlets at the big hotels and the airport, and Monument Books near the Old Market all offer a good selection of new books. Blue Apsara (Tel: 012-601483) near the Old Market specializes in used and new books, as well as DVDs and CDs. Paris Sete on 'Pub Street' has a selection of used French-language books. There are a couple of book carts that prowl the Old Market area offering all of the most popular Cambodia related titles. Book stalls on the riverside of the Old Market sell 'new' books, as do small vendors near the temples, which are much cheaper, but are bootlegged versions. The selection at the Old Market is more limited and they usually do not have new releases and high-quality photo books.

Convenience Stores

Angkor Market , Max Mart and StarMart are some of the better western style convenience stores in Siem Reap. Angkor Market , located on Sivatha Blvd. and Max Mart , with two locations, one on Sivatha and the other near the Old Market, both have good selections of groceries, sundries, drinks, international newspapers and magazines, etc. Star Mart, located on Rte. #6, is open 24 hours. All carry a pretty good selection of imported/European goods, including ice cream, snacks, wines, candy, etc.

There are several small strips of new shops along Sivatha Road. The 'Center Market' is aimed squarely at the tourist, with lots of souvenir places, a couple of travel agencies and photo shops, moneychangers and SBC Bank (which takes Visa card), and the New York Mini Mart convenience store. Many of the shops stay open until at least 9pm. The shopping strips nearer to Route #6 on Sivatha have fewer souvenir shops and boutiques, but more travel agents, money exchange, banks, massage, phone shops, and convenience stores.

Close to the Old Market, there are several small 'drink shops' opposite the hospital that carry canned goods, soft drinks, beer and freshly baked baguettes.

Film Shops & Processing

Siem Reap has a more than ample number of photo processing shops and film sellers. All of the big photo shops and most of the small ones now offer digital camera to print/CD services. Though some specialty films may be difficult or impossible to find, fresh supplies of most print and slide films are plentiful and available from both shops in town and vendors at all of the temples. Film processing is not quite up to international professional standards but is sufficient for most purposes. Most shops offer one hour processing as well as a limited selection of photographic equipment, disposable cameras and camera batteries.
